Dutch Cocaine Factory / Dutch Cocaine Factory (orig.)
Jeanette Groenendaal / The Netherlands / 55 min
Through shocking self-surveillance documentation we are swept into a pro-paranoia docutective with a perpetrated Arend, a Champion Leaque consumer, a Lawyer and Drugs scientists. Dutch gentlemen that relate 24/7 to the illegal drug Cocaine. They re-visit a well kept secret, the Dutch Cocaine Factory (the Netherlands until 1945 the best and biggest Cocaine produceing country in the world. An attempt for A Fair Trade with the 'cover up' War on Drugs? Arend seeks 'Solutions', for the quality of the cocaine provided today seems to be an automatic detox and if legal, production would not extend the coffee price. The power of the images, the structure of the film and the implausibility of the events are reminiscent of fiction, but performance artist Jeanette Groenendaal's documentary debut tells the truth and nothing but the truth.
About Doc Alliance: DOC ALLIANCE The New Deal for Feature Documentaries Doc Alliance is a partnership which emerged as a result of the co-operative effort of five key European documentary film festivals – CPH:DOX Copenhagen, DOK Leipzig, IDFF Jihlava, Planete Doc Review Warsaw and VISIONS DU REEL Nyon. The aim of the Doc Alliance initiative is to support the diversity of feature documentaries and to convince audiences of the fascinating, moving and instructive aspects of the cinéma du reel where reality surpasses fiction and becomes spectacular.
Doc Alliance was born with the awareness that new initiatives are needed to promote remarkable films to a general market that is less permeable to their circulation and commercialisation and to approach various audiences in every conceivable manner, ranging from cinema, television, DVD to VOD, and other networks. Its objective is to create an inventive and dynamic distribution platform for filmmakers and producers by offering attractive alternatives, debates, choices and perspectives.
